Galaxy Jones and the Space Pirates Book Talk

The Book Talk can take many different directions depending on the classroom needs and curriculum. I will read a short excerpt from Galaxy Jones and the Space Pirates and discuss topics such as:

• The scientific inspirations behind the book’s setting and universe
• The historical inspirations behind the book’s villains, Astro Bonny and Mary Read
• My process for drafting, writing, and revising the book
• Others as needed!

This conversation can be adjusted based on the audience’s ages and curriculum/classroom needs. 30-90 minutes with Q&A and signing.

Writing Craft Talk and Q&A

The Writing Craft Talk can take many different directions depending on the classroom needs and curriculum. I will read a short excerpt from one of my novels and discuss topics such as:

• Characterization
• Plot development
• Developing a setting
• Writing for a specific genre (mystery, adventure, or science fiction)
• Others as needed!

This conversation can be adjusted based on the audience (middle school through graduate school) and curriculum/classroom needs. 30-90 minutes with Q&A and signing.

Publishing Talk

I will discuss the process from drafting all the way to publication to help students visualize their own future paths to traditional publication. This talk can be offered for undergraduate and graduate students interested in writing and publication as well. 30-60 minutes with Q&A.

20-minute Zoom Visit

Reduced and/or no fee option available as needed

The suggested format for this session includes a brief reading by the teacher/librarian, a 5-minute talk from the author, 10 minutes of guided questions from the teacher/librarian and ten minutes of open discussion/Q&A with the students.
